Like a heart cut from ice. Colourless, almost. He casts no shadow and leaves no trace of his existence, except that damp, musky smell of ancient oakwood and moss soaked in rain, or a window left open through the night in an old library. He is soundless like a thief or a thought. The will of God is conducted through him. He is the vessel; vibrant but silent. He takes lives like children claim kisses, impartially, fully, absolutely. He smiles when he does so and after such a long time, no one knows whether it is benevolence or nonchalance that fills his eyes when the dying last look onto his unhurried face. Alabaster and absolute. Eternally patient.
Within his bones and being, he holds the end of everything.
And not even the Others know what it is.
